What is a blog?

As states by Rouse (2009) a weblog, sometimes written as web log or Weblog, is a Web site that consists of a series of entries arranged in reverse chronological order, often updated on frequently with new information about particular topics.

The information can be written by the site owner, gleaned from other Web sites or other sources, or contributed by users.

A weblog often has the quality of being a kind of "log of our times" from a particular point-of-view.

Generally, weblogs are devoted to one or several subjects or themes, usually of topical interest, and, in general, can be thought of as developing commentaries, individual or collective on their particular themes. A weblog may consist of the recorded ideas of an individual (a sort of diary) or be a complex collaboration open to anyone.

Blogs are an increasingly important communication tool in social, work and academic contexts.

A personal publishing tool that means any indi-vidual or group can publish on the web and re-ceive feedback from others. Plug-ins enable you to embed resources such as images, YouTube videos and Slideshare presentations.

Blogs must  be constantly updated, otherwise they are without interest.

Blog, a tool for teaching.

I would use blog in my professional exercise, to maintain students learning interest in a given object.
It is a mechanism in which students can participate as active agent learning, because through their participation they   are contributing in building meaningful learning.

As first step: I must explain to my students how to use this tool, and the purpose to use it. It is important consider the student population characteristics (age, grade, access to technological tools, etc.

As second step: I must socialize to student and parents, the specific topics on which we will work.

As third step: I must design my teaching material according to agreed topics, and the learning needs.

My teaching material can include the follow:

  • General information
  • Specific information
  • Links
  • Videos
  • Images
  • Audios
  • Workshops
  • Tests (etc.)

As fourth step: I must review the participation of each student, the idea is everyone participate, therefore they must writing a commentary, suggestions or contributions in each visit.

As fifth step: I must give suitable feedback and support.

As sixth step: I must evaluate process.

As seventh: I must update or renew the content according to the objectives achievement.
